The old Sokol Hall in Rokycany is now a modern cultural centre on the town roundabout. The reconstruction envisages firstly the restoration of the historic building, secondly the replacement of the outdated extension with a much more compact new building and in addition the creation of a dignified forecourt in the form of a square.
The new piazza is located on a gentle slope, therefore the access for visitors and performers is barrier-free. The lightness and transparency of the extension supports the solidity of the historic building. The old Sokol Hall in Rokycany is mainly used for a large social and theatre hall. The new building has a vestibule, a multi-purpose small hall, performers’ facilities and a dance studio. The two buildings form one functional unit. In addition, both halls can be connected into one on the ground floor. The emphasis is on simplicity and high variability of layout. The compactness minimizing investment and operating costs. The building has a quiet architectural expression.
