The pyrotechnic areal in Ralsko has been used to dispose of unexploded ordnance from all over the country since 2004. Expert examinations and training of pyrotechnicians also take place here. The modernisation and development of the pyrotechnic areal aims to increase the safety of the site and expand the facilities for training and storage. The technical building must meet all safety requirements, which more or less defines its form and location. The shape and location of the bunkers is directly influenced by the blast wave. That takes place in the blast pits at the other end of the areal. Therefore, concrete shelters are built with their backs to the blast pits, protected by a mound of earth and thick walls of exposed concrete at the sides and entrance. In addition, the entrances are protected by thick shields that prevent shrapnel from falling.
Newly paved concrete paths also crisscross the entire area. The technically challenging architecture is complemented by the rugged landscape work.
